In our evolution to more fully become the voice and action we know is critical to our times, Silent Things Within Us is now POLITY | a voice for action.
We are, indeed, thankful for our subscribers and followers. Each one of us is working to better understand the critical contributions we can make for the preservation of our democratic republic.
Numerous Substack publications are comprehensively documenting the events that unfold each day. Heather Cox Richardson’s “Letters from an American”; “Hopium Chronicles” by Simon Rosenberg; “Civil Discourse with Joyce Vance”; “Thinking About…” by Timothy Snyder; “The Contrarian” a consortium of some of the most noted writers and thinkers of our day. And…Matt Kiser’s Substack “What the F**k Just Happened Today.
Other Substack publications direct us to take action: Jessica Craven’s “Chop Wood, Carry Water”; Democracy Docket; “Hopium Chronicles”; and “5 Calls.”
POLITY | a voice for action joins these esteemed publications in providing calls for action!
A national calendar for rally / protest / general strike is shaping up. In the works—a nationwide protest on February 17, a one-day general strike on February 28, and a “total shutdown” on March 15. Many more actions are in the works.
There’s also now a website for a General Strike, and 200,000 people have already signed a strike card. The organizers offer a weekly Discord discussion for anyone with questions. Everyone is welcome. I signed a strike card today.
Here’s the most recent graphic of upcoming events.
At this stage in the Opposition, we need to be flooding our Senate and House representatives with calls.
Key: legislators take action based upon the volume of calls and emails they get. We are flooding the zone with action.
Legislators are there to serve us, not the other way around. They expect contact from their constituents. We must tell them what’s most important to us.
Here’s my own example. Each morning after reviewing any early events, I check the Hopium and Chop Wood, Carry Water emails. I subscribe to both, so I have daily emails. Simon Rosenberg and Jessica Craven suggest the most critical topics to call about. I add theirs to any other specific concern I have.
Call either the legislator’s D.C. office or their local office. Our volume of calls to them has been astronomical so you may be leaving messages. Legislators’ staffs chart and chronicle daily voice messages the same as they do live calls.
I am deepening my commitment to the perpetuation of our democratic republic. POLITY | a voice for action will be deepening the value of what we share with our subscribers; we’ll challenge ourselves and others to be the best we can be for our country. It will take all of us.
The only thing more powerful than a changed mind is a voice - and the action it engenders.
Everyone has a voice. Everyone must take action to protect our democracy!
Signed my Strike Card tonight. I agree. Everything we value is on the line.
